Ethnic identity researches always have been mutually concerned by anthropology, sociology, ethnology, and other disciplines. Ethnic identity refers social members’ identity cognition of the national members that they belong to, and the sense of belonging. National minority under urban environment faces the impact of complicated social structure and multiculturalism, which affects their sense of ethnic identity, also affects their survival and development in urban environment.Lanzhou is a multi-ethnic city with the majority of Han nationality; Mongolian nationality living in Lanzhou is mainly concentrated in the Northwest University for Nationalities, Ganshu provincial Sports Team, Lanzhou military area etc. The second generation of the Mongolian living in Lanzhou now has adapted to city life, and studied and worked together with other ethnic people in the city. However, how they establish their own ethnic border in the urban society with the majority of Han nationality culture and what are the changes of their ethnic identity in the city which are the focus of the paper. Based on the perspective of anthropology, this paper uses questionnaire survey and case interview method, and analyzes the ethnic identity status of the second generation of the Mongolian in Lanzhou combining with national culture and national consciousness of cognition. In the study,60questionnaires are handed out to the Mongolian in Lanzhou, and56ones are collected, among which54are effective;7people are in-depth interviewed. The survey findings are as follows:As for the Mongolian in the city, on the one hand, since the number is at a disadvantage state in the city, and they live relatively scattered, the sense of ethnic identity is obviously stronger than national regions; Under the environment of market economy, on the other hand, they focus on the national self-interest obviously is stronger; they not only actively adapt to city life, actively join in urban elites, but also keep the ethnic customs, religious beliefs and cultural traditions to a certain degree, which are specifically shown in the following aspects:First, the identity of the second generation of the Mongolian in Lanzhou is affected by the last generation. They have a correct attitude in their own ethnic identity and work and most people don’t care about how much convenience that their own ethnic identity can bring to their work, but they actively seek professional development with personal work ability. Some data show that the whole education level of second generation of Mongolian is good, and they can actively obtain modern scientific knowledge, but they are worried about their native language inheriting.Second, the second generation of Mongolian living in Lanzhou has strong sense of belonging and identity of their ethnic group has; at the same time they can actively contact with the ethnic compatriots. Although it is very difficult to keep the nation’s food, clothing, holiday and other traditional culture in the city, their nation’s cultural identity is higher, and they show confidence in their own cultural tradition.Third, the second generation of Mongolian hold tolerant and understanding attitude to other ethnic; they not only attach importance to their own ethnic identity and national pride is strong, but also they attaches great importance to relations with other nations; they hold positive and open attitude in marriage, and accept cross-national marriage.
