The new English curriculum criteria were officially issued by Chinese Ministry ofEducation in2011. The basic ideas and purposes of education are to help students understand theworld better, learn advanced technology, spread Chinese culture, establish both national spiritand an awareness of and respect for cultural differences, develop students’ positive attitudes andpractical abilities.Under the new curriculum standard, all the teachers in primary schools and junior middleschools are in the face of many problems, such as how to design the English teaching accordingto the psychological theories and the learning rules of language, how to make students mastereffective learning strategies and form good studying habits, how to arouse their interests inEnglish learning, how to make a smooth teaching transition from the two basic stages.There are two important and basic stages in compulsory education system:primary schoolsand junior middle schools,which are separated and also connected.Although people have madegreat efforts, there are still great gaps between them.Based on different kinds of psychological theories, such as the Learning Theory ofConstructivism and Meta Cognitive Theory, my study is started in Grade Five(primary stage) andGrade Six(junior stage) of Tai’an Dongyue Middle School. Different kinds of methods areadopted in order to show the real present situation of English teaching in Tai Shan District. I alsotry my best to summarize the problems of the transition occurred in the two stages.At the sametime, conclusions are drawn and suggestions are offered to the schools, teachers and the studentsas well.The final purpose is to realize the smooth and quick transition. Meanwhile we shouldn’tomit the improvement of quality and effectiveness of English teaching.This essay has much enlightenment for educational administrative department and teachers,mainly in the aspects of awareness, communication and so forth. It enriches and developsEnglish teaching theories and also has guiding significance for the process of continuity andeffectiveness. It is the theoretical significance. According to the conditions of Tan’an DongyueMiddle School, it defines the teaching targets, optimizes teaching methods, enriches the coursecontent, transforms the ways of teaching evaluation, stimulates interests in learning English and cultivates good habits and then provides operational teaching mode for English teachers andhelps students to pass the transition smoothly.The transition of English teaching is a big problem which can greatly affect the quality ofEnglish teaching. We need to think and explore them together and try to practise more effectivemethods in order to realize the consistency of English teaching of the primary schools and juniormiddle schools.
