Reading is an important way for people to understand the world,it usually becomes a kind of important way for modern people to learn.Secondary school is the period of students’ best memory and strongest curiosity,at this stage,foster reading ability is very favorable.From this stage,the overall situation of rural middle school is students’ Chinese foundation is bad, managerial condition is insufficient, teachers’ quality needs to be improved.Take Longganhu Middle School in Huanggang, Hubei province as an example,the school still has the old closed teaching ideas and teaching methods, in some ways even deep; quite a lot of initiative and enthusiasm of the students lack of extracurricular reading, don’t know how to conduct extracurricular reading, no good extracurricular reading habits; Extracurricular reading, especially from rural reality, from the student life, all in order to deal with entrance exam, under the background of shallow reading, reciting memory, thinking training phenomenon exists generally, extracurricular reading problems stand out.This paper takes Longganhu Middle School in Huanggang, Hubei Province as an example, the Longganhu Middle School students to read the whole perception, guidance for teachers and parents to guide, the main method of extracurricular reading and so on six aspects as the breakthrough point of the research.The survey study found that rural area middle school students under the background of shallow reading extracurricular reading is self consciousness, perceptual, optional reading purpose is too strong, preliminary shallow reading characteristics such as problems. Aiming at the problems above and its influencing factors, the author thinks that to improve the rural middle school students’ extracurricular reading should follow strong base open,improve the environment and other principles. Teachers should give the students proper reading guidance according to reading ability,reading peocess and learning transfer.
