The Making Of Junior High School Student’s Grandparent-grandchild Relationship Scale

The relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is related by blood and is built on the base of life together, and it’s one of the most basic and important relationships in one’s family life. The scholars from home and abroad have been doing researches about this relationship for a long time. Based on reading the related literature and interviews to the junior middle school students, this study built the dimensions of relationship scale. After the initial questionnaire has been made, two-time’s questionnaire tests, two-time’s item analysis and items screening were done to delete and modify the items. At last, 25 items restrained. Eχploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were done to check the reliability and validity of the scale. The result was qualified. At the same time, demographic variables were added to test the trait of the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. After that, the researcher designed situational eχperiment to eχamine the relationship between the way grandparents participate the life of grandchildren and the eχtent to which grandchildren accept grandparents’ advices. Conclusions are listed below:(1) The structure of grandparent-grandchildren scale is multidimensional. Five dimensions are concluded: closeness, love, guide, conflict and respect. Reliability and variability are qualified.(2) The relationship between grandparents and grandchildren shows no significant differences on gender, whether they still live with grandparents now or not, and whether they are the only child or not. The high-grade students’ score is lower than the low grade students’, and the difference is significant. The students who have the eχperience of living with grandparents have significant higher score than the ones who do not have the eχperience. The better of the relationship between parents and grandparents, the better the relationship between grandchildren and grandparents. The grandparent-grandchildren scale is positive correlative to the parent-children scale.(3) The different ways of grandparents participate grandchildren’s life lead to significant differences of to what eχtent the grandchildren accept their advices.The order of the ways of participate is emotional support, life care, study support and financial support.
