More attention has been paid to lifelong education with the development of society. Autonomous learning is regarded as an important theory in the field of education. It can combine theory with practice of senior high school students. It also promotes the reform of teaching. From the aspect of students, skills and knowledge that students gained from school cannot meet needs of the development of technology. Besides, senior high school students have a higher motivation, meta-cognitive and cognitive ability. They are the basic elements of the development of their autonomous learning. Besides, from the aspect of teachers, the New English Curriculum Standards requires the language teachers to get rid of the traditional teaching model and keep pace with the times. Teachers should combine the new teaching theory to adjust the requirements of the developing society.There are mainly five parts in this dissertation. Chapter one is a brief introduction, which includes the research background, research purpose and organization of the whole dissertation. Chapter two is a literature review, which includes definition, features, theories of the autonomous learning, the factors affecting autonomous learning in theory and studies related to autonomous learning both in home and abroad. Chapter three is the methodology. Chapter four is the core part, an analysis will be shown about the survey. Chapter five is a conclusion part. A summary of the findings and the implications for teachers and students are shown in this part. Besides, at the last section, some limitations and suggestions for further study are put forward.The four hundred subjects in this survey are from two major senior high schools. The instrument is questionnaire, which consists of thirty items. It investigates autonomous learning from five aspects. The first one is motivation and attitude. The second one is making plans. The third one is self-control. The forth one is making use of resources. The fifth one is self-elevation and adjust. The research questions are following:1. What is the situation of autonomous learning of senior high school students in Harqin banner of Chifeng?2. From the perspective of teachers, what are the factors affecting the students′ autonomy in senior high school in Harqin banner of Chifeng?3. From the perspective of students, what are the factors affecting the students′ autonomy in senior high school in Harqin banner of Chifeng?SPSS17.0 is used to analyze the data in this survey. The analysis are shown by table. In order to know deeply, the author makes interviews with students and teachers. According to the situation, teachers propose some suggestions for both teachers and students. The suggestions are as follows:1. Teachers should develop their professional knowledge to solid their foundations. What?s more, they need to learn some new theories. They can combine theory and practice in class.2. Teachers should change their roles according to real situations.3. How to improve themselves in the five aspects on autonomous learning.
