As an essential subject of basic education, the impotence of Geography has been raised after the new full implementation of curriculum reform. And the changing of teaching idea in Geography course is inevitable, we start promoting the idea of independence, cooperation and exploration in learning it. Experiment is a crucial part of learning geography, and also a basic mean of doing research on it. However, geography majoring students of normal college will be the teachers and have great impact on building a better team of geography teachers. In conclusion, experimental teaching skill is important to Geography teachers and also the key to operate experiment in geography course successfully. And research on experimental teaching skill of geography majoring students in normal college will help them improve the ability and enrich the theoretical research of experimental teaching.This article is trying to understand the current situation of research on Geography experiment at home and abroad through literature review, and indicate the requirement of geography experiment forced by the standard of geography course and textbooks. Meanwhile,it will help build up a evaluating index system of geography teaching skills including scientific attitude and the abilities of designing, preparing, operating, guiding and researching during geography experiments. On this basic, a survey is made on current situation of implementation of experimental teaching skills improved by geography majoring students from one Teachers Education University in Guangxi by the means of questionnaire and classroom observation.To be specific, this essay is majoring on the issue from the implementation of experimental teaching and current situation of experimental teaching skills. According to the survey, it indicates that there is a wide gap between the experimental teaching skills applied by geography majoring students and the requirement of new curriculum reform, which is mainly reflected in such aspects as paying inadequate attention to experimental teaching, low level of experimental teaching skills, and not comprehensive in mastering even a single experimental teaching skill.Through analyzing, we will find that the experimental teaching skills are influenced by bothinternal and external factors. And the external factors are mainly including the deficiency in paying enough attention on geography course by the education sector and lacking of experimental resources. On the other side, the limitation of experimental teaching idea, the lack of training for experimental teaching skills and practice of experimental teaching form the internal factors.Aiming at the current situation of experimental teaching skills of geography majoring students and the background of new curriculum reform in this paper, we are trying to put forward some feasible training strategies to help geography majoring students improve their experimental teaching skills. First of all, our students of geography major should understand their responsibility clearly, renew the idea of experimental teaching, and have correct attitude towards experiment science. Besides, normal colleges should provide more courses related to geography experiment in order to enhance students’ learning of experimental teaching theory and ability of experimental teaching designs. And the ability of preparing for experiments is also very important, normal college students should not only take full advantage of available experimental resources, but also need to develop more resources through producing experimental apparatus.Moreover, the training to improve students’ experimental teaching skills and requirement for strengthening the practice of geography teaching will be helpful to build up their abilities of experimental teaching. Eventually, to build multivariate system by self-evaluation, peer assessment and advocate the experimental writing essays. Thereby, it would improve the research capacity of experiment teaching.
