Autonomous learning is one of the important qualities students should possess, whether to do autonomous learning, is related to the quality of student learning, also related to the sustainable development of the students. Ability of the autonomous learning not only can promote students’ learning in school, but also students’ lifelong learning and the foundation for future development. In today’s society is in the era of knowledge explosion, the rapid development of modern information technology, information with each passing day, the rapid growth of human knowledge. Each of us only through continuous learning, lifelong learning, to adapt to the development of The Times, of course it also put forward higher requirements to students’ study. Geography is an important part of human culture, compulsory education in geography curriculum standard explicitly put forward:to change the "subject center" "knowledge center" concept of education, focus on students’ all-round development and lifelong development, combining the characteristics of geographical discipline, help students autonomous learning, actively explore the geography learning situation, therefore, how to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability, lets the student learn to autonomous learning, is a geography teacher must think every problem.A mind map is a visual thinking tool is not only an efficient information processing tools, it will be the person’s thinking liberated from multifarious text, on the said it. pay more attention to the connections between various things, make the abstract contact visualization, throughout the application of mind mapping in the field of education, made great achievements, to improve the teaching efficiency. So this article try applying mind mapping to geography in junior high school students autonomous learning, to provide a new method of learning for students, to provide a new teaching strategy.This thesis is divided into five parts:The first part is introduction, introduces the research background of this research topic, related concepts and the research both at home and abroad, this paper expounds the relevant theoretical basis, this study puts forward the research significance of this study, research ideas, research contents, research methods. The second part is mainly based on the students’ interest in geography learning, geographic learning methods,mainly for junior high school geography study of three main parts:preparation, new lesson, review the teaching design and case analysis. The fourth part for the analysis of the results, to use a mind map to promote autonomous learning effect are analyzed. The fifth part of the policy recommendations in the use of mind mapping to promote the study and practice of independent research on the basis of junior high school geography, for the teaching of the problems encountered, to reflect and summarize the teaching philosophy, the role of teachers and students, the implementation of the teaching activities of the three aspects, propose the use of mind Mapping strategies to promote teaching junior high school independent study.The fifth part is summary and outlook.
