In accordance with the statistics, the author proposes some suggestions on how to solve the problem from the perspectives of teachers, parents and students. The teachers should enrich reading themselves so that they can set a good example to encourage students to read. Teachers are also supposed to emphasize the role of extracurricular reading in students’ well-rounded development and abandon the concept that scores can evaluate everything. Parents should try their best to provide children with suitable reading environment. Students, as the most significant part in the process shouldtake their initiatives to read more, choose materials wisely, read more, think independently and grow up through reading.Through the investigation of the junior students in Wuhan NO.2 Middle School, the research finds that the general situation of English extracurricular reading is not good. Both teachers and parents are suggested to shoulder their own responsibility to improve it.
