Mind map can express radioactive thinking. It integrates knowledge with images, symbols, lineskeywords, etc. Mind map has the great significance to improve students’ learning style, strengthen their thinking ability, cultivate their creativity and imagination, and so on. The content of geographical compulsory 1 in high school is so much and scattered, so it is difficult for students to learn, and it is also very important to master. Therefore, the author applies mind map to the geographical compulsory 1 teaching in high school to explore the effect of mind map on the geographical compulsory 1 teaching in high school and search for a effective method of the geographical compulsory 1 teaching in high school.The author makes a brief description on the background, purpose, status quo and methods of the research. And then, the author defines the concept of “mind map” through the contrast with concept map. As the same time, the author analyses the theoretical basis of mind map applied to teaching. In order to study the application effect of mind map in the geographical compulsory 1 teaching in high school, the author selects high class 4 in Kaifu Middle School of the First High School of Changsha as the experimental class and selects class 6 as the comparative class. The research conclusion can be attained by contrasting the result of questionnaire survey of the experimental class before the experiment with the result after the experiment and the mark of comparative class and experimental class before the experiment with the mark after the experiment.The study shows that mind map has good effect on the geographical compulsory 1 teaching in high school. The use of mind map is beneficial to improve students’ interest in geography learning, cultivate students’ geographical study habits, mend students’ geographical study methods and polish up students’ thinking. The students are given the limited time to contact with mind map, so mind map is not widely used in other disciplines. At present, mind map has not wisely used in our country, therefore, it is the direction in the further to strengthen the related research of mind map, popularize mind map, make mind map understood by most of people and apply mind map to various fields, especially in classroom teaching.
