The Social Work Intervention Research About The Old People In The "Hollow Village"

The "hollow village " in the rural land has been drawing a lot of attention in the current. In our country, the phenomenon of the " hollow village " is quite common no matter in the prosperous coastal region or the sluggish northwest region. Unlike the other village, the "hollow village" has high-proportion old people. Against the background, the problem of the old people in the "hollow village " seems to be particularly prominent and all kinds of requirement are intense. Therefore, the idea and method of social work is applied to intervene in the elderly group based on the concept " helping each other and help oneself". We will excavate the resources which is beneficial to self-help for the old people and help them forming more-comprehensive self-help life pattern to solve the drawback brought by the hollowing of the village.Through various research methods and channels like literature studies, field observation and unstructured interviews collecting information on intervention cases in many ways to get acquainted with the basic information and needs of the old people in the village, we start with the guiding theory of social network supporting social work to analyze the advantage of the intervention. Then we will excavate the available network resource around them based on the needs of the old people and combine with the advantaged resources of them to intervene using casework and community work to solve the life problem for the old people.The research finds that the needs of the old people in the "hollow village" are forced on three aspects:material needs, psychological and emotional support needs, physical rehabilitation needs. During the casework, two old men were intervened in these three aspects. To some extend, we meet the needs of the two old men in materially, psychologically and emotionally, but the physical rehabilitation intervention has not yield substantive result. In the community work, it is successful to get fundiong for the festival gifts which have satisfied the physical and emotional needs of the old people for holiday, but the recording of the goog and drum tune has not provided practical help.Finally,the social worker suggests that more attention should be give to the mode of the intervention,making it more locally in the case work in order to meet these elderly’ needs of hobbies and interests and raise their self-service for medical treatment. For the work in the community, priorities should be given to the social construction for people’s livelihood mostly to help the elderly enjoy their rest of life in the village. As for their mentally support and humanistic concern, the government should promote the subsistence allowance system and endowment insurance, implement the system of coming back home often and tend to offer more medical treatment for the grassroots. In addition, the social worker puts forward some countermeasures and advices such as the construction of resources support system,the routine intervention service system and the promotion of the publicity and education in the community at the end of the article.
