The Research On Subject-Selections Of Master’s Degree Theses In Ideological And Political Education (2009-2014)

A good subject of Master degree theses is half success. The subject of Master degree theses is the important factor that affects the quality of theses and the first step or key process of preparation of graduate theses. And the year 2014 was the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ideological and political education and the 26th year of masters’ admission in that subject as well. Under such circumstance, the author carries out a research towards that issue, which has great value in theory and practical significance. At the same time, the author hopes to provide some references for afterwards researchers.This article mainly uses the literature material method, content analysis, and statistical analysis to study 1184 subjects of master’s degree theses in the field of ideological and political education from twenty-two "985 project" universities during 2009 to 2014. It aims to find out the advantages and disadvantages of subjects of those theses, together with the factors that may influence the selection of them And finally, it gives suggestion to optimize the subjects of master’s theses in ideological and political education area.This article is divided into six parts. First, it introduces research reasons, research significances, research status, research methods, the innovation of this research and the relative researches. Second, it summarizes the six principles and three aspects of selecting subjects in master’s degree theses in ideological and political education area. Third, it makes an overall analysis and eight concrete analyses of the subject-selection issues, based on statistics. Fourth, in accordance to the analyses, it points out the advantages and disadvantages of subjects of master’s degree theses in that field, as well as the factors which may have effects on subject-selections. At last, it gives advice to improvement of selecting subjects of master’s degree theses in ideological and political education area in four perspectives:nation needs to focus on rebooting, while colleges and universities should strengthen management; teachers should pay attention to guidance, and students need to enhance their own abilities. In the end, it summarizes the shortages of this study and expresses the future research in prospects.The suggestions of optimizing subjects-selection of master’s degree theses in ideological and political education area can be concluded as follows:First, about strengthening the guidance:actively create a strong scientific research atmosphere of "four directions", focus on the development of ideological and political education and promote the construction of a master’s degree thesis database.Second, about strengthening management:colleges and universities need to set up subject curriculums based on their own conditions, form new tutors instruction methods based on students’ capacities, strictly monitor master mentor selection process, control the quality of degree thesis, properly arrange financial investment to different subjects, ensure the students’ qualities with multiple measures and probe for making negative listing of subject-selections.Third, about strengthening instructions:tutors need to strengthen their senses of responsibility to carry out academic researches, guide students’ research trainings to cultivate the innovative thinking ability, adjust the research direction to follow after the times, build a harmonious relationship between teachers and students and enhance effects of instructions, etc.Fourth, about strengthening students’ attentions:students should have a clear subject orientation which is supposed to reflect subject features, embrace a solid theoretical basis, cultivate practical abilities, delve into previous academic achievements for reference and innovation, to select subjects according to concrete principles in a scientific way, pay much attention to the rigorous problem-solving consciousness and innovation of the subjects and promote the full development of each individual, etc.Through the coordination and union of those four perspectives, this research can optimize the subject-selections of master’s degree theses in ideological and political education, which will be the foundation of improving the quality of theses finally.
