With a new round of curriculum reform, situational teaching has been widely used in primary school English classrooms as an important teaching method. It plays an important role in stimulating students’ interest in learning, mobilizing students’ initiative and enthusiasm, and promoting students’ mastery of English and use. At the same time, it also has positive significance in promoting the new curriculum reform and improving the primary school English teaching. However, the teaching practice shows that there are still many problems in the implementation process of primary school English situational teaching, which directly influence the teaching quality in primary school classrooms. Therefore, it is necessary to present and explore the problems of situational teaching in primary school English classrooms. It serves to put forward some countermeasures and suggestions of situational teaching for the majority of English teachers in primary school English classrooms.The research is based on the situated cognition theory, constructivism theory and humanism theory, using the method of questionnaires, interviews and classroom observation. By doing so, we came to an in-depth understanding of 4 primary school English situational teaching of the main urban area of Chongqing Municipality from the following perspectives: the concept of situational teaching, the resources of situational teaching, the creation and design of situational teaching, the learning environment of situational teaching outside classrooms and the evaluation of situational teaching. Through the statistical data of the survey results and the analysis of data collected, the primary school English situational teaching exists the following problems: lacking correct concept of situational teaching, lacking adequate resources in situational teaching, lacking variety in creating situational teaching methods, lacking integrity in the implementation process, lacking favorable learning environment outside classrooms for the students, single evaluation mode of situational teaching.To solve the problems in primary school English situational teaching, this paper put forward the following strategies: cultivating correct concepts of situational teaching and upgrading teachers’ teaching capability(including teachers’ relevant theoretical knowledge, teaching skills and conscious implementation); enriching teaching resources(digging up resources of situation in textbooks, applying the resources of situational teaching from the Internet and real life); enriching the creation and design of situational teaching; conducting the overall design of situational teaching; creating a good learning environment(to build extracurricular teacher-student situation platform layout with English characteristics outside classrooms and campus environment); establishing a diversified evaluation system of situational teaching(including the diversity of evaluation target, evaluation subject and evaluation method).
