A Study On The Education Issue Of The Paperboy By Analyzing The Community Schools In Shanghai And Nanjing Designed For The Paperboy

During the period of the republic of China, newsboy was an important group in city life. As newsboy played an important role of modern urban life and is an outstanding representative of underclass children, it is valuable to do some historical research about the newsboy. From 1933 to 1949, Tao Xingzhi, Chen Heqin and Shao Mingjiu set up several newsboy schools in Shanghai and Nanjing, given some chances for the newsboy to receive decent education. This article is an exploratory research about newsboy and newsboy school during the period of the republic of China, focusing on the survival state of newsboy and the development process of newsboy school, and exploring its education thought and education model, analyzing its effect, features and shortcomings.This article is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, I discuss the emergence and development process of newsboy and the survival state of newsboy. In July 1872, newsboy emerged in Shanghai, when Shenbao began to hire children selling newspapers. Thanks to the great development of social economy and city life, as well as the frequent war, newsboy group is growing very last. Newsboy had been working extremely hard every day to maintain the survival of himself and his family. The harsh environment made the character of newsboy into two sides of good and evil. Newsboy became the creative inspiration of the song, poetry, novels, literary and other artistic forms.The second chapter discusses the development process of the newsboy school during the period of the republic of China. There used to be thousands of children selling the newspaper for the living in Shanghai and Nanjing. It is very necessary to train them properly. The Shanghai newsboy training group is the first institution of the newsboy education. In the summer of 1938, inspired by Tao Xingzhi, Chen Heqin set up 10 newsboy schools in Shanghai. At the beginning of 1940, Shao Mingjiu, who once worked in Shanghai newsboy school, founded five newsboy schools in Nanjing. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Chen Heqin return to Shanghai and signed up for another newsboy school. A lot of newsboys receive proper education in these school and Good results were obtained.The third chapter is a summarization of newsboy education idea and mode, analyzing advantages and disadvantages of newsboy education. The first educational concept of the newsboy education was social education, in order to make up for the inadequacy of pub lic education, and the second is the cultivation of professional skills and professional ethics. Newsboy school set up with characteristic of vocational curriculum system. By using "the little teacher" and the duplex teaching method, the newsboy school achieve the goal to enhance the level of the basic knowledge of newsboy and professional skills. As same as other social education, newsboy education also had the problem of fund shortage and loss of students, but the newsboy school put forward the corresponding solutions to solve these problems.In the conclusion part, I focus on the logical connection the research of the newsboy and newsboy education and explore its academic value and practical significance.
