| Presently, it is critical reformation period of higher education to its pattern-shifting and development in China. A shortcut to becoming world-classed educational system has become a major and urgent task for China’s higher educational development. The CIT has become a top-classed university in the world through about 120-year history since its founding in 1891. Together with the Stanford University, they have built an academic landmark in west US, which echoed with history educational institutions in the East. How has the CIT kept pace with time and maintained its educational features to advance to a top-classed academic university from a less-known local vestibule school?This paper aims to study the case of the on CIT’s reformation and practice, which helps analyzing internal factors to benefit China’s higher educational shift of pattern and development, especially to benefit the cultivation of China’s unique features and characters through the process of developing its higher education. Thus, some profitable experience and inspirations to building world-class universities shall be acquired.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction to elaborate the mentioned issues in the paper, the significance of research, the definition and classification of core conception, literature review and the method of research.The second part analyses the social and historical background along CIT’s pattern-shifting period, including American temporal political factors, the economic developing tendency, the social factors, the reforming influence of American higher education and the temporal situation of CIT.The third part mainly discusses the locating of concept of CIT’s transition, including the educational orientation of “Science First†and university’s developing pattern of “Small but Exquisiteâ€The forth part elaborates the measures of reforming practice in CIT’s pattern-shifting period, which presents the adjusting of subjects-building targets, the improvement of cultivating high-leveled brains, the cooperation of multi-dimensioned relationships, the enhancement of developing teachers’ specialties, the focus on collecting funds from multiple channels and the achievement of reputation of CIT’ s reforming.The last part discusses the experience and inspiration of reformation in CIT’s transition period, and the profitable reference to China’s higher educational development, which includes a world-classed president in a world-classed university, the understanding of self-position, the control of scale and quality, the overall improvement of teachers, the ability of China’s universities to collecting funds and the combination of subjects to realize a neo-achievement of building subjects. |
