Since the 1990 s, the pursuit of curriculum integration and curriculum should be come back to children’s experience and life has been initiating all around the world. Hence, new curriculum reform programs were introduced constantly. In 2001, the Outline of Elementary Education Curriculum Reform(Trial) also stated the incorporation of integrative practice activity into primary and secondary school system as a compulsory course in our country. In addition, with the concept of sustainable development deepening, the concept of harmony between man and nature also gradually interiorize. Bird as an important taxa in nature, it is also an indicator animal to evaluate the quality of environment and plays an essential role in maintaining the ecological balance in nature world. With the combinations of the two, developing integrative practice activity based on bird ecology and putting into action, which not only follow the trend of reform, but also is the requirement of sustainable development.The purpose of this paper is to developing integrative practice activity based on bird ecology by analyzing middle school students’ learning needs and with the combination of the local natural resources, to improve students’ basic knowledge of birds and awareness of environmental protection. The concrete content includes the following aspects:(1)The paper analyzed the current situation of integrative practice activity and activities associated with the birds in middle school through consulting relevant literature. On this basis, to describe the feasibility and necessity of developing integrative practice activity based on bird ecology of middle school.(2)According to a questionnaire(including learning background, desire, difficulties, contents and methods, etc.) from middle school students, we analyzed and summarized their learning needs of integrative practice activity based on bird ecology.(3) Through the aspects of activity objective, activity content, evaluation methods, and in the basis of the goal of integrative practice activity curriculum in China, we developed the integrative practice activity based on bird ecology with local characteristics.(4) To practice some integrative practical activities,such as “Go on wonderful bird sightseeing trip” 、 “Visit museum specimens” 、 “Explore the fabrication and installation of bird nests”. According to the specific situation and effect of activities, we conducted specific case analysis, summary and introspection after practice, the corresponding strategies and suggestions for further activities and research.
