“The professional standard of compulsory education school principals” will guide and promote the principals’ professional development. Principals shoulder the responsibilities of leading and managing the schools. So their overall qualities and leadership will exert a great influence on improving the running of the schools and deepening education balanced development in a county area. Therefore this article attempts to put forward strategies about how to improve the principal leadership based on the results of the survey.What is the principal leadership? The author thinks that the principal leadership is the ability of principal leading his or her team to fulfill the vision through passing on the culture, changing the way of classroom teaching, manifesting the characteristic of the school and cultivating the school spirit. It fully displays the complex repercussions on the school.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction. Analysis from the research on the principal leadership at home and abroad illustrates the theoretical and practical significance of the thesis, and determines the principals’ abilities of leadership on the value of it,curriculum, research, and relationship. The main factors affecting the principalleadership development are the principals themselves(including personality, way of thinking, etc.), organization, teachers, education system and social environment.The second part is the status quo investigation on the principal leadership. The study table is formed on the basis of the main components of the principal leadership.According to the questionnaire survey and field investigation, we analyses the four dimensionality of the principal leadership, the value of leadership, curriculum leadership, and the scientific research relationship between leadership and coordination.It points out that most principals lack the abilities of incorporating school-running ideas and school-running concepts into the development plan to realize his value guidance,the abilities of fostering the students by using the concepts of the course, the abilities of encouraging teachers to research about teaching itself and put the research results into the teaching, and the abilities of comprehensive coordination of stakeholders,especially facing the parents and teachers.The third part is a case study of the principal leadership. Through analysis on the case of a rural elementary school in Xinjin, the principal leadership isn’t shown in the scripts or files written about it but in every detail of running the school.As the headmaster H says : “ I think the role of the headmaster is to pass on the culture, change the way of teaching in the classroom and form the characteristic of the school.”The fourth part is about the enhanced strategy of the principal leadership. According to the four lacking abilities of the principal leadership, for school, I put forward developing school planning, building educational culture atmosphere, strengthening the construction of curriculum, reforming the implementation of classroom, guaranteeing comprehensive evaluation, changing scientific knowledge, standardizing scientific management, carrying out the overall linkage, paying attention to communicate with each other, turning management science into leadership strategy, etc. On top of the above,the principal also needs to improve himself by learning, learn about the classroom teaching,teaching research and how to use resources efficiently.The fifth part is the conclusion. The breakthrough of the principal leadership lies in deepening the curriculum reform. But I also realize that the principal leadership is something that needs long-term research and practice, and needs more“self-revolution”of the principals to promote education quality. I hope to get more research results to solve the bottleneck problems in this field.
