At present, the score of College Entrance Examination plays a vital role in the talent selection among high school students in China. So it is with the art-talented students. Therefore the analysis of effective methods to enhance academic grades of art-talented students can not only help students improve their English learning competence but promote their overall competence in the course of learning as well. Every student has his own cognitive style, which identically works on the student’s individual differences in learning. Teaching is no doubt an effective way to provide students with their preferred cognitive style in learning, so English teachers should be acquainted with the character of students’ cognition and pay more attention to the complementation of their cognitive style, so that the students can make rapid progress in English learning.Field Dependence and Field Independence, which influence teachers’ teaching methods, students’ learning methods and vocational selection,have close relationship with students’ learning methods and learning efficiency. So it is of great significance to make a research on this psychological theory, which enables teachers to conduct their teaching more effectively.The author sets a sample of 290 art-talented students in senior high school based on the analysis of cognitive style. This thesis is focused on analyzing cognitive style and capability of art-talented students in senior high schools, and discussing the relationship between cognitive style and English learning score, so that some characters of art-talented students can be summarized, thus providing English teachers with matched teaching suggestions and help students improve their English as a whole. In this research, the author employs Embedded Figure Scale to test the students’ cognitive style and draw the conclusion as follows.1. Relatively speaking, the cognitive style of art-talented students as a whole in high school is presented as Field Dependence, namely compared with the number of Field Independent students, art-talented students of Field Dependence are larger in proportion.2. Based on the obvious difference between different grades, the higher grade the students are in, the higher the Field Independence is.3. In terms of the gender, girl students have higher Field Independence than the boy students do.4. As for the discipline of the students, those who study art and literature have higher Field Independence than the students who study science.5. Family background influences students’ cognitive style to a certain extent.6. There is a close relationship between students’ cognitive style and English score; generally speaking, the average score of the Field-Independent students is higher than that of the Field-Dependent ones.According to the conclusion above, the author puts forward some teaching strategies to improve the art-talented students’ scores in English with the help of character of cognitive style. Consideration of students’ individuality is the premise of excellent teaching result. What’s more, the differences in character between students who incline to certain Field Dependence or Independence supply us with one physiological basis on reasonable performing of teaching strategy and individualized instruction.
