Since the 1980 s, the world has a trend of teacher specialization. In the wave of new curriculum, China has begun to study the research teachers, but having read the most studies which are most about some common issues, the study about the growth of research teachers also focus on the learning-oriented, and there are no outstanding geography characteristics and its own self-directed learning. Therefore, the paper explore how to become a research geography. from the geography characteristics and the self-growth angle. This paper studied the current status of research geography teachers and analyze the constraints research geography teacher self-growth and made several suggestions, through the methods of sample and the access surveys.This paper analyzed the reasons for the lack of geography teachers based on the teachers’ professional development theory, Bandera’s social learning theory, constructivist learning theory and reflective learning theory, combined with the questionnaires, interviews and a literature review and other research methods, and provides the appropriate strategy according to the constraints of the present study. This paper argues that research geography teachers’ self-growth should completed themselves from their own points of view, which contain: First update the geography teacher education concepts, with the advanced ideas to instruct teaching practice. Second, cultivate the issue of sensitivity about the teachers’ insight and awareness. The third is to enhance the ability to reflect themselves, only in this way, teachers can grow quickly. The fourth is to emphasize the geography teachers’ action research. to grow up. The fifth is to broaden teachers’ knowledge structure. The sixth is to train teachers’ innovation, cooperation and communication skills. The creative geography teachers can be better to cultivate students creative. The seventh is that teachers should learn the appreciate research. In this way not only can find the problem, but also should see the advantages, learn absorbing, and continue to carry forward the advantages.Secondly, Community support for research geography teachers’ self-growth is also important, but also the need to support policies and funding.Through this research, I hope to provide some advice to help the professionaldevelopment of teachers. for those teachers who want to be the research geography teachers.
