This research is a case study based on secondary school history teacher Ying Wang, an awarded teacher from HuNan province. Guided by qualitative research methodology, in the format of subject narration, while aided by literature review of the professional development of secondary school history teacher as well as literature on Ying Wang, this research, traced back Mr Wang’s personal growth, highlighted important people and significant incidences resulting in his pursuit as a professional. To fully explore the researching subject, the researcher worked as an intern assisting and observing Mr. Wang’s regular teaching, as well as conducting in-depth interviews with the subject.This paper mainly includes three parts:the first part is introduction, mainly summarized why choose the topic, the present study of middle school history teachers’ professional development and reasons for selecting Mr Wang as the research object. The second part is the main part, namely Mr Wang’s professional development course, phase characteristics and personality traits that promote his professional development. The third part is the summary, namely the re-recognition of Mr Wang’s professional development and reflection of the whole research process.The main goals of this research are probing the influence of Mr. Wang’s personal growth on his professional development, concluding different phases of his development as well as its main traits and analyzing the relationships between teacher’s personality and professional development. This research not only has approached with a new perspective, namely exploring a secondary school teacher’s professional development from a personality perspective, but also has conducted with different researching methods- narrative case study and follow-up study, interwoven with a teacher’s career development mind. This research enriches the study of secondary school history teacher’s professional development,enlightens secondary school history teachers and hopefully contributes to the practice of improvement of teacher’s professional development.
