Bell hooks is one of the most famous black public intellectual in the contemporary American. The study field her involving is very wild including education, literature, feminist theory, cultural criticism, etc. As a black woman, she also a professor at the university, a liberation education expert and a radical feminist. The multiple role gives her multidimensional perspective to examine social problems in the United States. Her bold writing style and her original opinion are caused wide attention and commentary both in academic field and the public domain of American society. As a professor at the university for many years and a public intellectual emphasis on democracy, hooks advocate education for personal liberation and social transformation. Through democratic education as a means of social transformation, contribute to a fair and democratic society. Based on the abundant theory such as critical pedagogy, multiculturalism theory, feminist theory, engaged Buddhism, she put forward the engaged education which also called transformation education or progressive education. As a core part of schooling education, curriculum is one of the most important part in hooks engaged education theory. The thesis is mainly divided into four parts:Part 1 introduce the social background and hooks’personal experience.Part 2 is about hooks’ mainly social theory on Sexism, racism and class matter. Part 3 is regards the main point of hooks’ critical curriculum theory. Part 4 Combined with the reality in our country, explore the enlightenment of hooks’critical curriculum thoughts for the curriculum theory and practice in our country.
