In recent years, the new intelligent operating system — Android, has attracted many developers and consumers because of its openness characteristics. The mobile learning system based on Android especially gives great help to middle school students. The mobile device installed with learning system is also becoming portable and multifunctional, students can learn whenever and wherever. Therefore, mobile learning system based on Android for middle school students becomes more and more favored by the users.Focusing on middle school students and using the principles of mobile learning, a learning and supervising system based on Android devices was developed in this thesis. The developed system can effectively supervise the student class attendance, help students learn out of class and make real-time communication. In addition the living ability and information literacy of students can be also improved by means of fresh news provided by the system. The full thesis can be divided into six sections. The first section presents a brief introduction of the thesis, including the research background, content, purpose, significance, method and framework. With focus on mobile learning, the second section gives the concept, theoretical basis, analyses of the characteristics and environment support. In the third section, the Android operating system and its key technologies are introduced. In the next section, the architecture of mobile learning system is constructed according to teaching design and resource development principles. Meanwhile, on the basis of learning needs and preferences of different middle school students, several modules of the system are designed, and the function of each module is also presented in detail. In the fifth section, the development environment of mobile learning system is constructed, and the implementation of the main modules is described. Subsequently, in order to ensure the feasibility of the system, simulator software is adopted to debug and run the application. In addition, a survey about the employment of the mobile learning system by middle school students is conducted. The present work is summarized and the future work is prospected in the last section.
