Learning disability refers to the fact that a student who has normalintelligence but gets a inferior achievement caused by low learning ability.Most of the recent studies have only focused on children’s learningdisabilities. However in this paper, the research is focused on thecharacteristics of English learning disabilities of junior school students.The study only discusses the junior middle school students’ definition andcharacteristics of learning in English, which aims to effectively filter outdisabled students in English learning, and classify this part of the studentsby their performances of the learning disabilities, then help themovercome the obstacles in learning English effectively.This research is divided into three parts. Firstly, two versions of screeningquestionnaire are made for the junior school students’ English learningdisability, by which investigated the students from Guiyang No.17JuniorSchool. Secondly, the students with English learning disabilities havebeen t selected to do a Wechsler Intelligence Scale, in order to screen andtest their intellectual structure. Finally, a specific research has beencarried out on the implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem of theselected students, and the comparison has been made between the twogroups of students with learning disabilities.The result shows that:(1) Junior school students English learning disability screeningquestionnaire includes two parts. The one for parents focuses on sixaspects: distraction, poor ability of reading and writing, poorhyperactivity and impulse control, low spelling ability, emotion andsocial dysfunction, poor cognitive ability. The other one for students describes four aspects: poor ability of reading and writing, distraction,poor distinguish ability and poor social ability.(2) The English learning disability screening questionnaire for juniorschool students has good consistency reliability, content validity,structure validity and criterion validity, and good model fitting. It can beused for screening junior school students’ English learning disabilities.(3) Junior school students with English learning disabilities weresignificantly inferior to normal students in all aspects of total intelligencequotient and intelligence structure. Wechsler Intelligence Scale has acertain effect in diagnosis of English learning disorders. All the indexesof ROC curves diagnosis could predict the ELD effectively when FullScale IQ and cognitive efficiency index are two most efficient entities.(4) Junior school students with English learning disabilities hadsignificant implicit self-esteem effect and their implicit self-esteem levelwas not in contrast to normal children, however, their explicit self-esteemlevel was considerably higher than that of normal children.
