MOOC has been accepted and spread by more and more domestic and foreignlearners in a short time, because of its high quality subjects’ resources andforming learning model. More and more college students become MOOC learners;more and more studies begin to focus MOOC. But the present studies of MOOC havefocused on theoretical research, lacking of focus and attention on the practicalpeople, so it needs more empirical research to deepen the understanding of thefield. The number of students in general colleges are large, but theireducational teaching resources is relatively weak,compared with the211and985universities, so MOOC has more practical significance on them. So this studyfocuses on MOOC learners of general colleges, what motivation can prompt thestudy of MOOC learners? How do they allocate their time and energy? What abouttheir learning harvest and learning experience? What successful learningexperience is worth for reference? All of those are that we want to know.The author chooses81MOOC learners from more than20general undergraduatecolleges, including Jilin Normal University, Changsha University of Scienceand Technology, Xi’an Siyuan University, and Guangxi Teachers EducationUniversity and so on, using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews tosurvey their choosing courses, learning motivation, learning behavior, thepreference of resources’ usage, the barriers of learning, Learning harvestand the learning experience and so on. What’s more, analyzing the two typicalcases in detail, and drawing relevant conclusions.In terms of course selection, the study found that the major way to know theplatform is recommended by others for the learners of the general colleges.Nearly half of the MOOC learners attend two or more than two courses, but a few learners can get a certificate. There are not correlation between the numberof course learning and the number of gotten certificate. Choosing course isbased on interests, learners don’t particularly care for the school and theteachers. The course selection reasons are diverse. In terms of motivation,their learning motivations are mainly to self-realization, learning interestsand learning needs become the ultimate driving force of MOOC learning. In termsof learning process, learners have specific planning, preparation and method,have ability to self-controlled in the boring time, but the learningconsciousness, the execution, feedback and summary need to be improved,learners are lacked of the cooperation, the planning of study directly affectsthe result of learning. When learners are learning with videos as the mainlearning resources, other kinds of learning resources are rarely used. A largeproportion of MOOC learners have experiencing dropouts. Learners will ask forhelp in the non-platform when they face to difficulties in learning, networkof partners can provide technical support; school learning partners are toprovide more help in learning. The language barrier is still the biggest barrierto learn foreign language courses. In terms of learning harvest, there is moreimprovement on MOOC learners’ learning ability and learning interests, goodMOOC course has a great help to learners. In terms of learning experience,learners give a high appraisal to MOOC course, furthermore, most of learnersthink that MOOC platform is easy to use, and they will continue to use it. Inaddition, there are still exist many problems in MOOC learning, such as lackingof guidance in choosing course, motivation of the learning don’t keep a longtime, students are confronted with many learning difficulties on non-coursecontent and so on.
