Both families and society pay full attention to the English education of the studentsbecause of the role of English as the most important international language in contemporaryworld. However, limited by the subjective and objective conditions of some aspects such asstudents, teachers and schools, there are various problems in the oral English teaching in ourcountry, including that students lack of the opportunities of practicing their oral English andcannot express idiomatically or communicate appropriately. Through a large number ofexperiments scholars at home and abroad conclude that the application of lexical chunks hassome obvious advantages of improving students’ communicative ability in the field of oralEnglish teaching in recent years. This study will apply lexical chunks to oral English teachingin senior high schools to solve the problems existing in oral English teaching in the seniorhigh schools, improve the effectiveness of oral English teaching, and provide some strategiesand suggestions for senior high school English teachers.This study selects a series of methods such as questionnaire, interview, experiment andtesting, analyzes and organizes literatures at home and abroad which are relevant to theapplications of lexical chunks in foreign language teaching, and theoretically expounds thefeasibility of the application of lexical chunks in the field of oral English teaching in seniorhigh schools. The author selects two parallel classes taught by her, and conducts acomparative experiment by applying lexical chunks to oral English teaching. By the methodsof questionnaire and interview, the author does a survey about the two classes of students’interest in learning before and after the experiment, test the oral English ability of students inthese two classes at the end of the semester, and use SPSS19.0statistical software to analyzethe data collected.The results of the study show that the application of lexical chunks in the field of oralEnglish teaching in senior high schools is very helpful for arousing students’ interest in oralEnglish learning and improving idiomaticity, fluency and accuracy of students’ oral English.When applying lexical chunks to oral English teaching in senior high schools, the authorsuggests that senior high school English teachers should pay attention to cultivate students’ awareness of chunks, and the creative, diverse and hierarchical usage of chunks.
