Commercial complex buildings bring convenience to citizens, meanwhile they bring threats to pedestrians in them, illustrating that com mercial complex building fire safety design should be in relatively high le vel. In the thesis, a field investigation on pedestrians flow behaviors is co nducted as an initial research, which is supported by the China Hunan Pro vincial Science&Technology Department (Grant No.2013SK2004). A model for analyzing the factors that impact pedestrian density in commer cial complex building is built. Combined with the above mentioned inves tigations, walking rules and evacuation behaviors for pedestrians in com mercial complex buildings are studied. Key works in the thesis can be su mmarized as follows:(1) The methods for investigating pedestrians flow characteristics are analyzed. Then, investigation scheme and target investigated people are s elected. Also, number of stranded people and their stranding time are surv eyed and analyzed. Moreover, investigation results are analyzed through multiple linear regression analysis method, and the significance on pedest rian density by different factors are studied, covering a range of geograph ic position, time, number of stranded people, weather conditions and stra nded duration.(2) Pedestrian walking rules in commercial complex buildings are con sidered, and exit selecting behaviors, exit using efficiency and pedestrian s walking route are discussed. Also, composition of different kinds of ped estrians, as well as factors that impact pedestrian walking speed and pede strian walking time, are statistically analyzed. On the basis of above resul ts, reference indexes for commercial complex building pedestrian evacuat ion model are constructed.(3) Pedestrian basic attributes and escaping behaviors are surveyed th rough questionnaires. Further, the dependency of each factors that impact evacuation behaviors are checked through SPSS chi-squared test method. With the above research, we summarize pedestrian evacuation behaviors in commercial complex buildings. When possible, the findings in this study provides reasonable, safe an d economic references to commercial complex building fire safety design and management, while also facilitates the commercial complex building performance-based fire design.Forty-seven figures, forty-six tables and seventy-one references are in cluded in this thesis.
