A Study On Students’ Learning Strategies Under English Curriculum Standard Of Compulsory Education (2011)

Great changes have taken place in the field of foreign language teaching research since late1970s. Thatis, researchers turn to focus on students’ learning. That is from how to teach a foreign language to how tolearn. Decades of effort being made by exports in English teaching field, language learning strategies werefound to be the important factors, which influence the result of learners, and which makes that researchingon learning strategies is found to be the key to researching on how to learn. It has been over ten years forthe English curriculum standard, from version2001till today (2013), when version2011has been put intopractice for2years. Many experts have been doing deep researches on learning strategies. More and moreresearchers have been doing researches on the using and teaching of specific strategies.Based on the analysis above, this research carries out the questionnaire from197students andinterviews from four English teachers in Zhengzhou NO.16Middle School according to the requirementsunder the English curriculum standard. We can fully know the use of students’ English learning strategiesand develop effective ways to explore, eventually, the current English teaching can be reflected andreference can be provided.The results of questionnaires and interviews show the following points: first, students’ use of Englishlearning strategies differs in genders and grades but the overall score is high. Factors affecting the students’use of learning strategies are teaching methods, teaching condition and living condition as well. So thereform is in need in order to adapt to the English curriculum standard. According to this research results,concrete suggestions for the students’ use of English learning strategies are put forward. The limitation andfurther suggestions for this study are pointed out in addition to the above contents.
