The era of the4thgeneration mobile communication technology has already come with the continuingadvance of science and technology, which means that there will be a new climax for the rapid developmentof modern educational information technology. Taking the opportunity of the new era, the vast biologyteachers are trying to seek and improve modern approaches of teaching. The biological world is diverse andvaried with infinite mystery, the teaching of a considerably large part of biological knowledge needs to beconducted in a vivid intuitional way as can be settled by applying video resources which provide abundantteaching materials for intuitional teaching. By the requirement of the high school biology curriculumstandard, teachers are supposed to make full use and development of curriculum resources. Videos,however, as a sort of unlimited curriculum resource, are widely favored by teachers of different subjects.The application of videos in high school biology classes has no doubt changed the pattern and philosophyof traditional education.Many famous educators and teachers have made thorough studies on the application of videos inteaching. Through their endeavor, they have summarized a number of practical theories and experiences.However, looking through their achievements, studies on the application of videos in biology teaching arerelatively scarce, when it comes to the application of videos in junior high school biology teaching, theavailable cases become second to none. Thus this research probes into the application of videos in juniorhigh school biology teaching with the combination of subject characteristics and curriculum requirements.Via consulting, analyzing and studying a considerable number of academic dissertations of mastersand doctors, periodicals and other references, the writer summarizes the concept, classification andcharacters of video resources and attempts to set up a clearly classified database of biological videoresources through teaching CDs, the Internet and self-made videos. Guided by constructivism study theory,the cone of experience theory of Dale, and digital learning theory, this paper summarizes the5majorutilities of video resources in junior high school biology teaching:1.Effectively constructing a teachingscenario which motivates the students’ interests for biology learning;2. Turning difficult and abstractconcepts into intuitional and simple figures which is useful for the breakthrough of important and difficult teaching points;3. Providing more information in the class, widening the vision of students, and improvingtheir efficiency;4. Promoting the interestingness of the class so that students can memorize the knowledgemore easily;5. Guiding experimental teaching which will be beneficial for students to grasp the right wayto operate. At the same time, combined with the former research achievements, this paper sorts out the5principles of the application of video resources in junior high school biology teaching, namely: coherentwith the teaching content; the content of the video should be scientific and educational; use video resourceson class in appropriate time, quantity and extent; students should be the center of the class; reveal biology’sproperty of life and modernity.Through interviewing different high school biology teachers, referring to PEP edition biologytextbooks, and combining self-practices, the writer has sought out some easy and practical teachingmethods on the application of some video resources on junior high school biology teaching such as usingvideos as introduction, consolidating the acceptance of new content via interesting videos, using relevantvideos for expansion and combining videos with other teaching methods. The results of this research makethe application of video resources in junior high school biology teaching a plausible idea and provide newapproaches for teachers to finish their teaching tasks and promote their teaching qualities. This paper hasalso summarized some problems that might come out in the application of video resources in junior highschool biology teaching, corresponding advices are also included.
