Swimming is recognized as one of the most popular programs by the whole world in the21st century.It can be divided into two categories: competitive swimming and practical swimming. From the perspectiveof the international athletic sports like Olympic Games and Asian Games, where the number of gold medalsof swimming is simply next to that of the track and field events. Moreover, it is widely known that “trackand field, the swimmer the world”; from the perspective of the national fitness, swimming is one of themain sports programs advocated in China’s “national fitness program”, aiming to promote the sportscompetition and realize its fitness value. However, the relevant researches show that swimming athletictalent is very scarce in China. The sports department of the university, as the main channel of trainingswimming talents, is not optimistic in the teaching situation. Therefore, it is of much necessity and urgencyto reform the teaching situation of swimming in the higher sports colleges.The present research selects the higher sports colleges in China swimming class teaching as theresearch subject with the literature review method, questionnaire survey method, mathematical statisticsmethod as well as logic analysis, It primarily analyzes the current situation and main influencing factors ofswimming courses in higher sports colleges and further discusses the reform of swimming lessons in thehigher sports colleges, then comes to the following conclusions and suggestions:1. From the guiding ideology, it is found that the purposes of students choosing swimming lessons arebasically identical with five goals of sports participation, sports skills, physical health, mental health andsocial adaptation in the teaching guidelines. Furthermore, teaching contents focus on the skills ofswimming, and say few of the practical and applied contents such as the fishing methods and skills, thereferee rules, organization and arrangement. It is recommended to pay attention to practical, leisure fitnessswimming and public technology.2. From the teaching methods, multimedia and other modern teaching methods are prettyinsufficient.,and the equipment a swimming venue is insufficient.It has certain realistic difficult to carry outthe differentiate principles. The teachers should combine reasonably with the layered audit and themandarin teaching, mutual assistance and land so as to guide students to active learning and exert their subjectivity.3. Form the teaching form, single-sex classes and the class teaching organization form is themainstream of teaching organization. Suggestions focus on starting from the interests of students, theproper use of small class teaching, organization more swimming after class and extracurricular practicematch, so that students can learn the related knowledge of swimming in happy atmosphere and improve theteaching effect of swimming lesson.4. Form the teaching evaluation, phenomenon of evaluation carried out by teachers according tostudents’ physical fitness and sports skill or graded by the teacher individual phenomenon is relativelycommon. Although some teachers begin to notice invisible emotional psychological ability evaluation likethe student attitudes, but the proportion is not high. It is advisable that the evaluation should be fair and justwith the combination of process evaluation and other evaluation form and giving full consideration toclassmates whose original technical level is not high.
