With the vigorous promotion of national and local governments, our strategic emerging industries are booming. It drives a large number of employment opportunities and spawns a huge demand of talents. Different strategic emerging industries have their special demands. Therefore, how many demands can each of these7industries produce? What is its developing potential in the future? Whether the current status of talent cultivation can meet this demand? If not, what should universities do to deal with it? All these issues deserve widespread attentions. Meanwhile, related researches are rare. Most of them use a qualitative description and analysis method for the lack of official statistics on talent indicators of the strategic emerging industry.In this paper, listed companies of each strategic emerging industry were selected as samples. Gray system approach was used to predict future talent demands of related industry, to examine the developing potential of these industries’, as well as to build a gray model of indicators as total employments and revenues. Then, a comparative analysis was conducted for the comparison between the current situation of universities’disciplines construction and talent cultivation for strategic emerging industry and the demand so as to indicate the future direction of talent cultivation. Finally, suggestions were proposed so that universities can better adjust their disciplinary structure relaying on their own resources, strengthen their university-industry cooperation and encourage innovation. All in all, this paper can give a reference to predicting talents demands of the strategic emerging industry scientifically and effectively when there is a lack of necessary official data.
