Music is closely related with people’s life. It also influence our learning in many ways.Different kinds of music may have different effects on people who had different backgroundmusic preference. In order to find the effects, two experiments were designed.7th gradestudents were chosen as the subjects, and some Chinese vocabulary which was unfamiliar tothem was selected as the material. Experiment1was a2×3design, including theparticipators’ background music preference (having background music preference, not havingbackground music preference) and three conditions (classical music, popular music, nomusic). This experiment was mainly discussing the effects of three different learningconditions on recognition results of memorizing Chinese vocabulary. Experiment2was a2×2design, including two conditions (Chinese classical music, western classical music) and theparticipators’ background music preference (having background music preference, nothaving background music preference). It was designed to find the effects of two differenttypes of classical music on recognition results of memorizing Chinese vocabulary.The results were as follows:(1)Different types of background music had different effects on recognition results ofmemorizing Chinese vocabulary of junior school students. Classical music had significantlypositive effects; popular music had significantly negative effects.(2)The results of Chinese vocabulary recognition had significant difference betweenparticipants who had different background music preference. The recognition scores ofparticipants who had background music preference were higher than those who had notbackground music preference.(3)Different types of classical music had different effects on recognition results ofmemorizing Chinese vocabulary of junior school students, while the difference was notsignificant.
