Internalization is the process that children accept social norms and values of theparents, and then internalize their own standards of behaviors, which is an importantaspect of the socialization. Based on a research by Gralinski and Kopp, this studyexamined parents’ daily rules for children at3-7, internalization of children, rearingstyles and children’s temperament, to understand internalization.Open-ended questionnaires are used to collect daily rules of children for331parents in each kindergarten in Changchun, Anshan and Beijing and a primary schoolin Changchun. Recode the results by domain theory. The checklist is according to theresults of the open-ended questionnaires and investigate258parents in each class ofkindergarten as well as the first year to collect the daily rules of parents and children’sinternalization, temperament characteristics and parents rearing styles.Main categories are moral rules, conventional rules, safety rules, physical rules,independent rules, psychological rules, pragmatical rules and academic rules.Safety, moral, physical and academic rules dominate the top. Three trends areshowed in daily rules, decrease in moral rules, conventional rules and independentrules; increase in academic rules; staying still in safety rules, physical rules,psychological rules, pragmatical rules.Three trends are found in internalization, still in psychological and academicrules; increase steadily in independent rules; with critical periods in moral,conventional, pragmatical, safety and psychological rules. At4-5, children rapidlyinternalize moral, safety and pragmatical rules; at4-6, increase internalizationgradually in conventional rules, and psychological at6-7.Children have different performances in different rules. Parents not emphasizing,children easily internalize independence, practical rules; children at5internalizemoral, conventional, psychology rules; repeatedly stressed, children internalize safetyrules; repeatedly stressed, still not internalize physical, academic rules.To all children, the positive parenting style is conducive to children’sinternalization; and the negative ruins it. Positive parenting contributes more to boys’internalization, while negative parenting hinder only girls’.To children difficult or easy to raise, the role of parenting is weaken.
