From the1980s, the importance of culture in foreign language teachingis an indisputable fact. However, most people devote more attention to foreignlanguage and foreign culture, while ignoring the learning of native culture. Itis not beneficial for the development of cross-cultural communication. Realcommunication needs to know about native culture, or it must be anunsuccessful communication. In China, western cultures are alwaysemphasized in the process of current teaching. Learners touch the westernconscious and only know how to express western cultural connotation. Mostof them unable to express Chinese culture in English and they often makethemselves feel embarrassed in the process of cross-cultural communication.The thesis is mainly involved text analysis and questionnaire research.The study is based on the current curriculum standard and high school Englishtextbooks. In addition, the students and teachers’ attitude, teaching ways ofChinese culture are all analyzed in the thesis. At last, some conclusions can befound that: requirements to Chinese culture in the curriculum standards arenot clear; configuration of Chinese culture need to be perfected; students lackthe awareness of expressing Chinese culture in English; teachers’ culturalliteracy.According to these problems, some suggestions are provided. Forinstance, the awareness of express Chinese culture in English should beguided by government and media. Students can be influenced from differentangles, not only schools or teachers, but also society. For the educationdepartment, more specific requirements of Chinese culture should be made inthe curriculum standards and teaching materials. The teachers must realizethat the shortage of English expression ability of Chinese culture is thedisadvantages of current English teaching. The most important is that studentsmust be sensitive to Chinese culture around them, and think about how to express them in English.
