English is becoming a necessary part of education that Chinese students receive,from kindergarten to university,even after-class study. English appears wherevereducation exists. Although many people spend so much time in English learning,not many students can learn it well. So how to improve the quality of Englisheducation is a lasting problem lingering on educators’ mind. The drawbacks in theEnglish teaching are talked about in this thesis, focusing on teaching materials,teachers and students. Also the gap between teaching and learning is also discussed.Based on the theory of Krashen’s input hypothesis and the96students surveyed, anexperiment was carried out between two classes, class11and class10senior3inZhangjiagang Senior High School. Based on the comparison between the averagescore changes between the two classes, the usage of input hypothesis in Senior HighSchool English teaching can benefit the students involved a lot in students7problem-solving ability., thus improving students’ English ability. Besides, theinspiration arising from the involvement of the input hypothesis in Senior HighSchool English teaching is also further discussed, such as the pattern of languageinput and the effectiveness of language input environment. Some suggestions aboutthe reform of English teaching are also put forward in the thesis, for example,theteaching materials, the order of teaching materials and teaching methods to improvethe quality of English teaching.
