Improving Students’ Cross-cultural Knowledge In Junior High Schools Through Cooperative Learning

With the increasing globalization of today’s social life and the economic activities, people have a better understanding of English learning. Therefore, the function of the language is no longer simply limited in the field of communication, but highly recognized as the vehicle of culture, as a refractor of the target language culture.In this paper, first the author has reviewed the theory of constructivism and cross-culture and the research status of the both mentioned above, and then carried out an experiment for nearly a year in order to find out whether cooperative learning can improve students’ cross-cultural knowledge in junior high school. According to the results of the experiment, the author has an interview on the students about the author’s findings. Through the analysis of the pre-questionnaire and the post-questionnaire, the results of the pre-test and the post-test about the cross-culture by using the SPSS statistical software for conducting the scientific analysis, the author has concluded that cooperative learning can help students to master more knowledge about cross-culture. Subsequently, according to the results of the experiments, the author made several superficial opinions and suggestions about the cross-cultural teaching through cooperative learning.Finally, the author has come to the conclusion that cooperative learning approach can improve students’ cross-cultural knowledge in junior high schools and they are getting more and more interested in learning cross-cultural knowledge.
