On The Education Significance Of Modern Rites Of Passage In Taiwan

The education of rites of passage is an educational project for teenagers who are going to be adult. Since the1990s, China has carried it as the task of ideological and political education.As a result,we have made some achievements.However, because of the oversimplified,formalized,political,and recreational tendency,it’s educational effect is not ideal.Taiwan also views the rites of passage as an important education content,so that Taiwan has explored it for many years.The rites of passage has been chosen into the syllabus of high school’s citizens and society curriculum in2010which means education system of rites of passage has been formed.Since then,school has become the main body of education system of rites of passage.It gives much enlightment to us.This study introduces the status of Taiwan education system of rites of passage in detail through Jianguo High School,and analyzes it’s educational significance.Investigation in Taiwan offers me reliable first-hand material.Documentary method, questionnaire investigation, interview method, observation method and case study method have been applied comprehensively in this study.The paper presents the history of Taiwan’s rites of passage and the exploration process of modern rites of passage education by literature research. Secondly, through the case of Jianguo High School,the study shows education purpose,content,form and process of modern rites of passage education in Taiwan and refines its education elements and influence.In the end,this paper examines the effect of rites of passage education in Taiwan to provide improvements by using survey method.The study comes to such conclusion:modern rites of passage education aims at assistanting the grown-up teenagers to realize and accept their adult identity smoothly. Adult identity is constructed by the interaction between adult society culture and youth individual culture. In the process of education,Taiwan attaches importance to psychology education,and highlights the cultural character.Schools are the hosts in Taiwan modern adult ceremony.They focus on personal accomplishment and ability by carrying out the consciouseness of adult education,living and survival skills education,specialty education.They also focus on group accomplishment and ability by carrying out the ethical and moral education,social education,history and culture education.In the end,they focus on the civil diathesis and ability by carrying out the civic diathesis education and social service practice. To implement these education content, four main educational forms are used. They are discipline curriculum,diathesis developing training,passage ceremony and service learning competition. Taiwan’s rites of passage takes both of social and individual care. What’s more,it has rich contents,various forms and complete cycle,which brings us multiple significance of theory and practice.
