| The Revolutionary University was a new phenomenon in the20th century. It’s set up by Communists in order to train cadres in the revolutionary base and liberated place, which belongs to the New Democratic Education. Although the presence of the Revolutionary University was not long, it played an important role in the formation of the new higher education system in China.East China University,which was created on the basis of the original Central China Construction University and Linyi Shandong University, was the largest and longest revolutionary university of Shandong Province. East China University was founded in May1948, Shandong Weifang. After the liberation of Jinan in September the same year, it subsequently moved to Jinan. After entering Jinan, East China University entered a new period of development, its scale turned more expanded and its system turned more perfect. At the same period, with the need for revolutionary situation, East China University students actively joined the revolution, the Southward movement, the Yellow River rescue, Land Reform, the movement to resist U.S. agression and aid Korea, etc., played a revolutionary university’s mission.Before and after the founding of New China, East China University began the transition to formal Renmin University, department of adjustment, curriculum reform, teaching improvement, etc., everything was moving towards formal university. September1950superiors decided to move East China University to Qingdao, merged with Shandong University. In March the following year, the two schools officially merged, East China University became history. This merger had a double impact on Shandong University, not only brought short-term pains to Shandong University, but also injected fresh blood to Shandong University for the future development and expansion.East China University was a microcosm of Chinese Revolutionary University. From the development process of East China University, we can see that the Revolutionary University existed both achievements and problems. The largest contribution of the Revolutionary University lay in the support revolution, personnel training, and left us many valuable experience in running a school. The biggest problem of the Revolutionary university was its strong political color, and brought no small negative impactr to later higher education, worthy of our reflection. |
