Home chaos, an important dimension of the family environment, including noise, Hubbub andOrder and so on, affect children’s cognitive and social psychological development. In the current socialconditions of china, study on home chaos on left-behind or floating children especially has importanttheoretical significance and practical value,. In this study, we explore the effect of family chaos on ruralleft-behind preschooler’s cognitive ability. Taking161children aged3-6years as subjects,who are from3private kindergarten of Xuchang County in Henan Province, the number of the left-behind children was79,the non-left-behind children82.the number of children from Low class (43.93±2.91months)are57, middleclass(55.79±3.66months)53, high class(67.57±3.64months)51. Using Chinese edition of the CHAOSscale to measure home chaos; the verbal subscale in the Mccarthy infant intelligence scale Chinarevision(MscA-CR) was used to measure children’s general language ability;5common execution functiontest tasks is used tomeasure the development of executive function in children,they are the Coase blockstask, anti Coase blocks task, Panda-Lion task, grass–snow task and flexible project selection task.The results showed that left-behind children family chaos is significantly higher than that ofleft-behind children family, left-behind children general language ability is significantly lower than the nonleft-behind children, the difference is significant, and nonleft-behind children had no significant differencein the total score of left-behind children’s executive function, age and the state of left-behind have nointeraction; general language ability of the children in low chaos family is significantly higher than thosefrom high chaos family; while executive function scores of children from low family chaos was higherthan that of children from high chaos family, but the difference was not statistically significant, and thestate of left behind and home chaos have no interaction; family chaos and general language ability andexecutive function of preschooler are highly correlated. Children’s general language ability and executivefunction are highly related. Results suggest that family chaos influences development of preschool childrencognitive ability, especially the ability of language, left-behind children family chaos are higher,corresponding measures should be taken to reduce the chaos of rural family,especially left-behind family,in order to promote the development of cognitive ability of preschooler.
