As a popular lingua franca in cyber space, network language reflects the distinctivecharacteristics of the times. It is the main language carrier for the communication for network public, butalso an important expression of public psychological adjustment and ideas communication. With thedevelopment and spread of internet and a variety of new media, network language’s scope of influence isexpanding from the network community to many areas of daily life. The university students which aregrowing up with the development of network in the new era have great interests in the beginning of thegeneration of the network language. Meantime, they are the subjects which creates and uses the networklanguage while acceptance and recognition. University students’ highly recognition and extensiveapplication not only deepens the internal circulation of network language in the university students, butalso boost the spread and expansion of the network language in the university campus.The gradual penetration of network language to the daily life of the university studentsinfluences part of the university students’ values and behavior. What is more, with this growing influence,network language has generated direct and indirect impacts to the ideological and political education ofuniversity students. Network language can promote physical and mental development of universitystudents and provide new opportunities for the development of the ideological and political education tothe university students. However, the network language also brings some negative impacts to the universitystudents which impede effective ideological and political education. This paper takes the network languageas the starting point and analyzes the impacts on the ideological and political education of the universitystudents and also proposes relevant countermeasures to expect the ideological and political education can effectively deal with network language, so as to promote the healthy growth of university students.This paper is divided into three main parts in all:The first part mainly elaborates the related concepts of network language. The connotations andthe types of network language are stated and the network language’s characteristics, functions anddevelopment tendency are analyzed. All these are aiming at making necessary groundwork for the topic ofthis paper.The second part mainly analyzes the impacts of network language to the ideological and politicaleducation of university students. The double impacts of network language on ideological and politicaleducation of university students are pointed out, and conducts deep analysis on the positive and negativeimpact on its in-depth analysis.The third part presents basic countermeasures to deal with the network language for theuniversity students in the ideological and political education. These include: strengthening education andguidance for college students to identify and use the language of the network and improve the educator’sability to use the network language, giving play of the supervision and guidance of the media, etc. Theaims are to promote the rational use of network language in the ideological and political education foruniversity students and promote the comprehensive healthy development of university students.
