Teaching reading plays an important role in language teaching. Currently, the " ordinary high school new curriculum standards " promulgated by the Ministry of Education’s new emphasis on the teaching of reading, emphasizing its importance, making it the focus of language teaching activities. From the point of view of teaching reading, modern reading of the table of contents accounted for the vast majority, it is necessary to strengthen the emphasis on modern reading instruction; and in everyday life, people use modern text communication, writing, modern culture has become in our lives an essential part of it. However, this is not true, in the teaching activities, the vast majority of teachers think that modern culture is simple to understand, the students themselves can understand, then the teacher is not required to explain in detail, and even spend a lot of time to not be able to get higher scores, led many teachers to reduce the emphasis on modern reading, which makes modern reading teaching situation is worrying.The study on the status of Jinzhong City Senior High School Zuo Quan modern reading instruction investigation and analysis, a preliminary understanding of the basic status of the school in the teaching of modern reading, analyzing causes of reading problems, and finally explore ways to solve these problems and recommendations.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction, discusses the topics presented, purpose and significance, status, scope and methods. The second part describes the characteristics required curriculum standards for teaching and modern reading of Jiangsu materials, a detailed understanding of the new curriculum standards for modern reading requirements; Since this paper is mainly based on the status quo Zuo Quan schools to study, so this chapter the final section is mainly for Jiangsu brief analysis of their election materials used in the file system, so the basis for the following discussion. The fourth part discusses some of the shortcomings of Zuo Quan is modern reading teaching secondary school premise, put forward opinions and suggestions targeted hope some extent modern reading of the school’s teaching help, ultimately expect to improve the quality of school language teaching modern reading.
