With the development of economy, it is very important to learn from othercountries. According to English Standard curriculum in2011, we leam that studentscan learn English from grade three in primary school. In grade four, students shouldachieve the goal in the first level. In grade six, they should achieve the goal in thesecond level.when they are in grade from seven to nine level, they should achieve thegoal in level three to level five. It means that the task in junior school is to raisestudents’ interest in English and overcome difficult words. They should understandsome reading passage. But, according to some research, there are many problems inlearning English. Students are scared to learn English. The major problem is toremember a lot of English words. It’s a very difficult task for them to remember thewords even teacher teaches for many times. Which influences students’ interest inEnglish. If they want to read some passage, it will be very difficult. The author try tofind a appropriate method for students to remember words through many research andanalysis. She hopes that a method can solve students’ problem in rememberingEnglish’s pronunciation and spelling and make a good foundation for further learningin English.International Phonetic Alphabet is alway learned by people who speak English asa foreign language. Although International Phonetic Alphabet gives people a good wayto pronounce a word by them, it can’t set a good relationship between thepronunciation and spelling in English. Learning this method is also very difficult forstudents to remember English words. However, there is another method which is verypopular in English speaking countries whose name is phonics. It will teach students theway words’ pronunciation and spelling and related to each other. It will help studentspronounce words when they see them,and write down words when others pronouncethem.So the goal of this thesis is to check whether phonics can improve students’ talentin pronunciation and spelling. In three months, The author makes some analysis onresults from students’ test and answering questions, interviews. She finds phonics can improve students’ talent in pronunciation and spelling.The methods in the thesis are literature, interview, investigation, observation andtest.The questions should be deal with are:1.Whether phonics can improve junior students’ English learning of spelling?2.Whether phonics can improve junior students’ English learning ofpronunciation?The author applies phonics in teaching students who are junior two, and finds thismethod can improve students’ talent in pronunciation, spelling and raise students’interest in learning English.
