The current English teaching method in high school is based on the traditionallanguage teaching. Traditional teaching methods mainly focus on logical knowledgeinstalling, regarding students as the vessel of receiving knowledge. The teachingmethods are monotonous and dull, neglecting students’ participation and emotionalexperience. As a result, students begin to lose interests in English,and even form ahostile attitude toward learning. With the development of educational reform, highschool English teaching has been innovated in many ways. Experiential Englishteaching has been considered as an effective teaching approach for students to inspiretheir learning interests and foster their integrity ability, this method emphasizescreating situations, activity participation, cooperation in communication and practicingin reality.Based on Constructivism learning theory, Experiential Learning theory,Experiential English teaching emphasizes using and mastering the language inparticipating activities. That is, learning by doing and using by doing. Students canmaster the language skills through perception, experiencing, practicing, participationand cooperation. In order to meet the need of the revolution of English teaching, thispaper promotes the idea of complementing experiential teaching in senior high school,aiming to help senior high school students arousing their enthusiasm of learning anddeveloping students’ English comprehensive ability, improving the dull condition oftraditional classroom teaching.This essay starts with an introduction of the background of experiential teachingboth abroad and at home and an analysis of the existing problems with Englishteaching in current situations in China. Based on the study of constructivism,empiricism and experience learning theory, this paper makes a research on theapplication of experiential teaching in high school English teaching of listening,speaking, reading and writing four aspects. This research was carried out in twoEnglish classes in Chongqing Jiangjin Tin Ka Ping high school. The data analysis of the experiment leads to the conclusion that experiential teaching is feasible andeffective in English teaching in senior vocational schools. It does not only motivate thelearners’ interest in English, but also improves the students’ comprehensive ability.Experiential English teaching has great superiority to high school English teachingfrom both theoretical and practical.
