“High school Chinese reading” is part of the high school language teaching materials,based on the new syllabus in2000. It matches with the Chinese textbook and is used asafter-school reading materials. Because of the requests of the new standard of Chinesecurriculum, the content of the Chinese textbook is relatively limited. But “High schoolChinese reading” has far more selected articles and richer content, which is beneficial tobroadening students’ horizons, developing their reading and writing abilities and shapingtheir personalities. However, in actual teaching,“High school Chinese reading” is in anawkward situation, because senior school teachers can’t get the necessary guidance, theyhave to explore some ways to use “High school Chinese reading” based on their practicalteaching experience. When exploring the “High school Chinese reading”, they may havesome problems and take some detours. For this reason, we Chinese teachers have a lot ofwork to do about how to understand its characteristics and value, and how to improve theefficiency of using it. This paper talks about the value in use of “High school Chinesereading” in depth, based on the analysis of the characteristics of “High school Chinesereading”. The author thinks “High school Chinese reading” can be used to build a readingsystem, writing and activity bases and create a research topic to guide the practicalresearch-based learning, etc. In addition to that, this paper analyses and studies thestrategies of using it with the aim of making “High school Chinese reading” play its properrole and improving the efficiency of using it in the future.
