Since Professor Gardiner of Harvard University proposed the theory of multiple intelligences in the1990s, there has been plenty of researches and experiments on this theory in academia. In the process of education, the theory of multiple intelligences has been fully applied to teaching in terms of improving the teaching methods, changing the evaluation system to the students and reforming the teaching evaluation system, which is aimed at improving the teaching concepts and teaching methods in essence.Based on this theory, correlation research has been done to the math scores of some junior students in one of the key middle schools in Kunming City in order to explore the effects that multiple intelligences have on their math scores. Questionnaire survey method was adopted during the process of researching. Multiple intelligence scale by Professor Armstrong was used to measure the performance of the students in the three grades and SPSS software was used for the data analysis.First of all, we applied the difference analysis and correlation analysis to the students’background factors, finding background information which influences the math scores of students should be:students’math scores in primary school, how much they like math and their mothers’levels of education. All these three factors have a positive correlation with their math scores. And after analyzing the relevance between junior middle students’ math scores and multiple intelligences, we find that the students’math scores are apparently relevant to their language intelligence, logical intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, musical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence. Using regress analysis to test the credibility and validity, we are convinced that the math scores of junior middle school students are obviously related to their language intelligence, logical intelligence, and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence.Analyzing the connection between multiple intelligences and students’math scores, this study presents the effects of multiple intelligences on education more intuitively. The research results can directly contribute to the math teaching in junior middle school. During the process of teaching, teachers can reinforce the relevant intelligences which influence the students’math scores so as to improve the their study. To sum up, this study offers practical approaches to middle school math teachers to improve their teaching efficiency and increase their students’ math scores.
