The paper is intended to explore the design scheme of long-term homework and give an assessment standard of it, based on mathematics teaching. As a new form of the assignment, the study of long-term is at the early stage in China. The author does lots of research on the document literature of the similar assignment at home and abroad (e.g. cooperative learning, project work, topic assignments etc), combines it with the abstract and logical thinking ability of mathematics, bases it on multiple intelligence, constructive learning theory and the overall education theory, and integrates the definition of long-term homework:a kind of homework in various forms that takes a long time to accomplish, oriented to students’interest, linking knowledge learning with actual life, emphasizing the application and accumulation of knowledge and aiming at cultivating students’lifetime learning ability.The paper also summarizes its characteristics, value and functions, and its design criteria is discussed in the aspect of purposes, contents, standard and classification, and the long-term homework collected from several schools is displayed. The author elaborates on the assessment of its operation results from the perspective of its purpose, principle, approach, application of its results, reform and development etc. On the basis of the survey result of a key primary school in Shanghai, the conclusion is reached that students have a positive attitude towards the type of open, innovative and new-style homework.The long-term homework plays an important role in inspiring and promoting students, guiding and instructing mathematics teaching and enlightening education decisions. The author hopes that long-term homework will draw more public attention, and the teachers will increase their education accomplishment so that students are able to show themselves, learn happily and find advantages of their own.
