As a multi-ethnic country, the ethnic minorities play a vital role in Australia. Theminorities of Australia include local minority and the ethnic groups of immigrationwhich flooded in this land after World War Ⅱ. In the long process of historicaldevelopment, the problems of minority education have increasingly shown up. To dealwith these educational problems, the Australia government formulated a number ofeducational policies in order to guarantee the educational right of the minoritystudents improve the academic achievement of the ethnic minorities and protect thelocal minority languages.This thesis takes the changes of the ethnic minorities’ educational policies as theresearch object, after the educational nationalization having been achieved inAustralia. The thesis analyzes the factors that influence the changes of educationalpolicies of ethnic minorities, based on the research of varies educational policieswhich were formulated by the Australia government in different period. Meanwhile,the thesis also summarizes the main characters of the changes in the ethnic minorities’educational policies. There are five parts in this thesis: the first part mainly describesthe terrible situation of the ethnic minorities during the massacre policy and the totaldependence upon the UK; the second part describes the minority education policies ofassimilation time depending on two parts, namely, under the situation of indigenousminority policies and under the situation of immigration policies, furthermore, thispart also describes the characteristics of minorities policies from cultural identityaspect; the third part mainly describes the integration policy towards ethnicminorities’ education as well as factors leading to the failure of the policy; the forthpart mainly analyzes the different minority education policies during the time ofmulticulturalism. During his period, the Australia government published a number ofeducation policies to ensure the educational rights, the achievement and the moneyused to improve the equipment of the ethnic minorities and so on. During this time,the educational policies of ethnic minorities pay more attention to upper level identity,which is national identity; the fifth part describes the influencing factors and characteristics of the change of educational policies on ethnic minorities in Australia.Also, this part analyzes the ideas that we can learn from the ethnic minoritieseducational policies in Australia. The Australia’s minority educational policies haveexperienced the transformation from massacre policy to assimilation tomulticulturalism, which make great influence on our countries ethnic minorities’education.
