The illustration is an integral part of school history textbooks,and also importantteaching resources.It helps to stimulate interest in learning history and conveyhistorical information effectively.In historical thinking skills training,it also plays animportant role.Previous illustrations studies focused on the ordinary junior highhistory textbooks,but illustrations of history testbooks for deaf students are seldomconcermed.Based on illustrations of nine years of compulsory history textbooks for deafstudents as the research object,through the literature reseach concludes the functionand illustration design concept.Using content analysis,comparison summary graphicproportion,the relationship between the text and illustrations,illustration selection andso on,then finding out illustrations design characteristics and possibleshortcomings.Using observation method and interview method to understand theusage of illustrations,by effect analysis,find shortcomings of illstration design and tryto find new ways to optimize. The study show that illstrations of history textbooks fordeaf students: insufficient quantity and low proportion,illstrations not fit deafstudents’ interest,graphic mutual confirms weakening,illstration title too abstract,formand function set too simple. Accordingly puts forward appropriate to increase thenumber of illstration, fit deaf students interest,enhance graphic prooffunction,improve illstration title,rich form and optimize function.
