As we all know, vocabulary is the key to language learning. The command of vocabularyhas an important effect on students’ four skills. Therefore, teachers must pay great attention toteaching methods of vocabulary. It is necessary to find a more effective method to solve theproblems in junior middle school English vocabulary teaching. Task—based vocabularyteaching is designed to ask the students to finish some tasks individually or in pairs or ingroups in certain situations, and encourage them to cooperate while completing certain tasks.Students are always exposed to a real communicative situation during the classes, and they areable to remember the vocabularies by finishing tasks and using the language to communicatewith others, thus developing their independence, cooperation and innovation.In this paper, the author has raised six kinds of task-based vocabulary teaching designs.These activities are specially designed for small-sized classes. All of the designs are aimed tomake students learn English vocabularies more effective, to make teachers improve theirteaching methods in vocabulary, as well as to strengthen the students’ ability to use theEnglish language freely. In order to prove whether TBA vocabulary teaching is effective insmall-sized class, the author conducted an experiment in a small-sized class. By comparingthe vocabulary test results and questionnaires before and after the experiment, we come to aconclusion that task-based vocabulary teaching is definitely to promote students’ vocabularylearning in small-sized classes.
