The finger self-injurious behavior is part of the self-injurious behavior. It usually happens after people suffer the intense emotional pain. It’s a kind of emotion regulation behavior. The finger self-injurious behavior may lead to mental and physical retardation and greatly impact on teenagers’ physical and mental health as well as theirstudy. Then it will bring families and the society a new series of issues. This paper aims to accurately grasp the status of the finger self-injurious behavior among schoolchildren, explore the context and causes of The finger self-injuriousbehavior and put forward some corresponding countermeasures. At the very beginning of this study, a survey of the status of the finger self-injurious behavior among schoolchildren is made through some open-ended interviews. Based on the results of theinterviews, a questionnaire is prepared. The stratified random sampling (897valid samples) questionnaire survey is made among some primary and high school students in Ningbo. Then, the paper compares and analyzes the different results of the survey from different grades and areas, and discusses and explores the contexts where the finger self-injurious behavior occurs as well as the causes. Finally, some countermeasures and suggestions on interfering with the finger self-injurious behavior are given. Here are the main conclusions of the research:Firstly, the incidence of students cutting their own fingers remains high. It hasgreatly affected students’ life, especially their interpersonal communications.Secondly, the incidence of children from grade1-3cutting themselves issignificantly higher than that from grade4-6, while the incidence of students fromcities is notably higher than that from villages. The incidence of students fromboarding schools cutting themselves is strikingly higher than that from normalschools, while the incidence of kids raised up by housemaids is greatly higher thanthat raised up by their parents or grandparents.Thirdly, the situations in which students cut their own fingers are remarkablydifferent according to different grades. Primary school students usually determine tocut themselves when they are criticized by their parents or teachers or when they encounter too difficult homework, while high school students often do such thingwhen they have problems with their classmates or when they have bad results inexams.Fourthly, the factors which cause self hurt are: grades, districts, school rules andbreeding models.Fifthly, the best intervention time for students who cut themselves is from grade4-6.Some countermeasures are given based on the findings of this study.1. Microscopic countermeasures including the acquisition of emotionmanagement skills and the application of problem-solving therapy.2. Mesoscopic countermeasures including behavioral therapy, family therapy, and supportive psychotherapy are given to families.3. Macroscopic countermeasures including effectively carrying out the comprehensive curriculum system, making some practical activities in different ways and further alleviating the burden on students.
