Of the English five language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writingand translation), the listening is considered to be the most important and thebasis of all language skills. However, it is very difficult for many high schoolstudents. The English listening skills of senior high school students aremainly improved in the classroom. Thus, the design of listening classroomactivities directly affects the students’ listening ability and their examinationperformance. In recent years, the students’ listening is still poor despite thatthe listening ability is paid more and more attention. Now most listeningactivities in classroom are traditional ones, whose teaching model is simple,boring, and inflexible. The teacher gives the students the listening questionsfor them to scan and finish, and then plays the listening material repeatedlyuntil the students can finally answer the question. Such a teaching modelmakes the class boring and low-spirited, and even makes the students dislikeand resist English listening. Therefore, its teaching result is not ideal.Since the1990s, due to the long-term effects of the second languageacquisition and learning strategy research, some experts has begun to study onthe systematic training of listening strategies in the classroom. As a newteaching pattern listening strategy training is slowly accepted and understoodby the middle school English teachers in China. Listening strategy isconsidered to effectively improve the student’s awareness of employinglearning strategy and learner’s listening comprehension, and the research onlistening strategy has begun to be paid attention and develop. The paperreviews the process of the listening comprehension, the definition and originof the learning strategies, and the classification of them. Based on the author’steaching experience, the author conducted the listening learning strategytraining of senior high school students in Nankang middle school, and thenproposes the hypothesis that the instruction on the use of listening strategieswould contribute to improving listening comprehension and the hypothesisthat listening strategy training would promote the students’ use of strategies. The author did a survey by questionnaires. They are: English listeningproficiency test and listening strategy investigation. The result of the researchis presented as follows:1. In the post test, the listening comprehension ofexperimental class is obviously higher than that of the control class, whichmeans the systematic listening strategy training can effectively improve thestudents’ English listening level.2. Listening strategy training can effectivelypromote the employment of students’ learning strategies, and improve thestudents’ consciousness of employing learning strategies.Based on the study, several suggestions are put forward. The conclusionof the study plays a positive role in guiding and practical significance theEnglish listening teaching of the senior high school.
