In the era of knowledge-based economy, informatization application in the field ofeducation has become increasingly prominent. Multimedia technology which is based oncomputer and internet has become an important carrier of modern education system. PPTcourseware, as a core element of the multimedia, is an effective teaching method, whichis widely used in middle school English classrooms. With the advancement of the newcurriculum reform and the modern educational technology, it is an inevitable trend toapply PPT courseware into the English class. In order to know more about the currentsituation of the application of PPT courseware in English reading classrooms, the authorselects Middle School affiliated to Northwestern Polytechnical University, MiddleSchool affiliated to Yan’an University and Junior High School of LanTian County inXi’an as the research object, through the PPT courseware sample survey, interviews,questionnaires and other methods of empirical analysis, PPT courseware in Englishreading classroom application condition are discussed and analyzed. Through the survey,it has been found that PPT courseware can optimize English reading teaching in juniorhigh schools. However, there exist some undeniable problems on how to make better PPTcourseware, how to use it better in class, etc. Under the guidance of ConstructivistLearning Theory and Audio-visual Teaching Theory, and following the principle of thedesign of PPT courseware and evaluation standard, the author focuses on these problemsand also puts forward some suggestions on how to make better use of the PPTcourseware from the perspective of the courseware and teachers.The survey report consists of five parts. The first chapter is the introductory section.It introduces the background, purpose and significance of the survey. It not only introduces the current situation of English reading teaching and the existing problems ofPPT courseware applied on English reading teaching in junior high schools, but alsoconcludes that the value and significance of the survey through the review andsummarize the domestic and foreign literature. The second chapter is design of the survey,which includes the PPT courseware sample survey, questionnaires and interviews. Basedon the questions put forward, the author does some research in order to know teachersfrom different schools and students of different levels, whose attitudes towards the effectof the application of PPT courseware, and teachers how to make and use it, etc. The thirdchapter presents a description of the results of the survey. Then the author makes detailedanalysis and discussions about the problems and reasons of the survey. Through analysisand discussion of the result, it draws a conclusion that the advantages of PPT coursewareare obvious, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects, such as activeclassroom atmosphere, stimulate interest in reading, create real language situation,improve students’ concentration and participation, enhance language sense, providelearning strategies, and strengthen the important words, sentences, the ability ofdiscourse analysis and the text comprehension, etc. Meanwhile, there exist someundeniable problems on how to make better PPT courseware, how to use it better in class,which are mainly reflected in the following aspects. First, too much information makesstudents confused. Second, teachers are easy to weaken the “leading role”. Third, theclass lacks of verbal communication. Fourth, the form of PPT courseware being usednow is too simple, thus leading some problems to occur in class. Finally, teachers areeasy to ignore the individualized teaching. The fourth chapter, based on the result of thesurvey, the author also puts forward some suggestions. First, it can be strengthened thatthe integration of multimedia technology and the theory of English reading teaching.Second, teachers should follow the principle of the design of PPT courseware andevaluation standard. Finally, PPT courseware should combine with Learning Guide. Thefifth chapter is the conclusion section. It states the research conclusion, and puts forwardthe limitations of this survey and exploration direction in the future. The survey is about the application of PPT courseware in English reading teachingin junior high schools. It investigates on junior high schools about the current situation ofthe application of PPT courseware in English reading classrooms more fully in order toknow teachers’ and students’ view on it better. Through the survey, it has been found outthat the advantages of PPT courseware are obvious in English reading teaching, but itstill exits some disadvantages in the actual teaching process. Therefore, we should makefull use of the advantages of PPT courseware, avoid the negative effects of courseware inpractical application, and actively explore effective combination of English teaching andPPT courseware, to maximize their respective advantages, which also be explored theissue for our foreign teachers nowadays.
